Healthcare Scribe Program Certification Questionnaire
In order to satisfy ACCIM’s requirements for Hospital-Facility Scribe Program Certification, the response to each of the questions below must be yes.
Is 100% of current scribe workforce ACCIM certified or have been eligible for no more than 90 days? (skill standard, quality protective, the goal here is to have only certified scribes employed and to make certification part of the initial hiring process)
Is the scribe program compliant with state employment labor laws, including minimal wage, employee break and overtime requirements? (labor standard, scribe protective)
Are employees given an employee handbook to review and sign? (scribe protective)
Are all of the employees covered under a current worker’s compensation policy? (scribe protective)
Is there a written scribe program Computer Order Entry policy?
With respect to the Computer Order Entry policy, is a measure in place to safeguard against any scribe from having “sending” capability, that is, to prevent any occurrence of a scribe being able to send a patient order electronically? (patient protective, provider protective, pend order)
Are scribes given a formal written evaluation every 6 months or more frequently?
Do scribes currently receive pre-clinical training prior to working in the Hospital-Facility?
Are scribes made aware of HIPAA, Protected Health Information, and the HITECH Act?
